Carolina Foothills, SC:  MARKET IS OPEN!!!!!!

Hello all,

Well big things are afoot.

My husband and I have just gotten into buying storage units at auction and it became very clear rather quickly that I was going to need a place to start selling.

There is a place right down the road from my house that just began late last year called Red Rooster Jockey Lot.

I paid to have a room on the inside of the building and as a result now have a venue to also display for carolinafoothills also the people who who run the business will be giving Tony’s Pizza here in Liberty all of our info and they have agreed to hand out 8000 fliers for us.

I have high hopes that this will bring in both new customers and new vendors.

Take Care and as always be safe and eat well,

Susan.

Augusta Locally Grown:  THE ON-LINE MARKET IS OPEN AT AUGUSTA LOCALLY GROWN

WE GOT IT GOING ON!!!

THUR, JAN 22 — FRUIT & VEGGIE RX PROGRAM … We are thrilled to be part of something pretty amazing: the Fruit & Veggie Rx Program in Harrisburg! ALG has partnered with Harrisburg Family Health Care, Good Neighbor Ministries, Icebox Ministries, Slow Food CRS, Wholesome Wave Georgia, Veggie Truck Market farmers, GRU-MCG student volunteers, local volunteer physicians, and Emory University to start this summer. The program will prescribe locally-grown fruits and veggies, through a healthcare setting, to enrolled mothers and their children at-risk of diet-related diseases, weekly for five months. This is the FIRST such program of its kind for Wholesome Wave in Georgia. Yep! Not Atlanta, not Savannah, not Athens, not Macon … yes Augusta!!! Coalition members will roadtrip this coming week to firm up program design. Woot woot! To read more about this coolness, visit www.wholesomewave.org/our-initiatives/fruit-and-vegetable-prescription-program.

We’ll provide the morning break food for participants at this wonderful event. Hugs to ALG board member Laurie Ritchie for baking blueberry scones, and to Helms College Culinary students for baking the biscuits. One more volunteer is needed to help serve the food from 8am-12noon on Friday, Jan 30. Email kim@augustalocallygrown.org to help. Tickets for the event are still for sale at www.tedxaugusta.com.

MON, FEB 2 – WTF* LOCAL FOOD FILM & MEDIA SERIES … Join us for a monthly media showing of the deeply significant and often alarming issues facing our modern food culture. The series will be “Stone Soup” style … you bring a seasonal ingredient; we’ll throw it in the pot and eat together. First up: an audio lecture on “glyphosate” from a seasoned, activist farmer. Hugs to AGL volunteer Shannon Williams for helping to head this up. Go Shannon! Location TBA. *WTF = We Trust (our) Farmers.

TUES, FEB 17 – EHS STEPS INTO WELLNESS: HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIRALG will host a seasonal foods education booth at Evans High School for CCBOE employees. We’d love a volunteer or two to help, especially to promote the Evans Towne Farmers Market. Volunteers are needed from 8am-1pm. ALG board member Janie Peel is the organizer of this event! Go Janie! Email kim@augustalocallygrown.org if you can help.

SAT, MAR 14 – FARM TOUR & WORKSHOP AT ADDERSON’S FRESH PRODUCE … One of the CSRA’s most beloved organic veggie farms is planning an educational farm tour and workshop in mid-March, and Augusta Locally Grown will be helping! We’ll need several volunteers at this wonderful setting in Keysville, GA. Hugs to Chef Megan Alig of Creative Cuisine for offering her services. Email kim@augustalocallygrown.org to help.

TUE, MAR 17 – OPENING DAY AT THE VEGGIE TRUCK FARMERS MARKET … “Dark Leafy Green St. Patty’s Market Party” is what we’re calling our opening day festivities this season. Come support these all-local, all-naturally-grown farmers and other vendors. And yes! We’ll be doubling SNAP/EBT again this year. The market is in Harrisburg, across from the Kroc Center, every Tuesday, 4:30pm-7pm, through October.

WED-THUR, MAR 18-19 – THE GEORGIA DIETETICS CONFERENCE will be held in Augusta this year. ALG board member Lauren Belcher is an organizer of this event. Go Lauren! SAT, MAR 21 – GROW HARRISBURG URBAN FARM FEAST … this one’s gonna be awesome … more details soon!

THUR, APR 2 – OPENING DAY AT THE EVANS TOWNE FARMERS MARKET … We’ll be taking vendor applications for this market starting next week! Visit www.evanstownefarmersmarket.com for our guidelines. Joyful Noise Acres Farm:  The market is open for ordering.

I know it is early but I will hit the ground running in the morning so thought I would get a head start with the market.

We have a new order of cheese to come in. I did order extra cheddar since that seems to sell out the quickest. We will have fresh butter Wednesday afternoon most likely but still have a few available until then.

We are blessed to have another source for our lamb. Cedar Rock Dairy provides us with grass fed and finished lamb. They have a lot of organ meat right now if anyone is interested. Lamb and beef hearts, kidneys, tongue, and oxtail. If you are interested in those, let me know. We hope to have a supply of bones delivered next week so ask for them when you come by on Wednesday.

Simply Oh! continues to supply us with her wonderful personal care items. From handmade soaps and shampoos to household cleaners, she keeps it clean and organic.

Good Shepherd Herbals will be delivering Elderberry Syrup in 2 weeks. Please go ahead and pre-order so that she will know how many more to bring. We are so grateful that she continues to supply the market although they have moved.

If you know of someone that would like to join our market as a grower or client, please refer them. We love to grow!

Blessings,
Mary Beth

Champaign, OH:  Since You Been Gone

Since you been gone, since you been gone…
I’m outta my head, can’t take it…
Could I be wrong? But since you been gone…
(Rainbow – Since You’ve Been Gone)

So, this song…you couldn’t have been kicking around in the late 70s without having blasted this song, singing at the top of your lungs, cruising around in super cool cars.

If you read my Weblogs, are friends with me on Social Media pages, are fans of my business page, you know I have bonds that run super deep to my growing up in the West End of my hometown, you know my bonds are still super close to my West End pals, and you know that we ran wild back in those days.

I remember parents leaving on vacation, leaving teens with food, beverages, money, and a car…while they were out of town. Okay, it was the 70s, we lived in a sheltered neighborhood, and, well, who cared…we were teens! Home alone! I’m sorry that we weren’t sorry for our parents leaving all of us…it was the best of times.

One of my best memories was of parents leaving, my best pals all assembling the obligatory house party, my guy pals hauling enormous speakers out on the roof of the house, tunes blaring, cars lining up, party in session. This song…this reminds me of one such afternoon.

Back then, we had no idea we were making these memories…we just liked to have fun. I have been reflecting, a lot, back to those years. The places, the times, the people…some of the best in my life. The West End will always have so much of my heart, my pals, so much of my soul. I believe in true friendships, I believe in history of friends, I believe that where you came from makes you the person you become in adulthood.

This is one of the reasons that I love our little local market of love. I feel strongly in the bonds, the customers, the products, and did I say…the customers??

Our customers…the weekly loyals, the monthly loyals, the every couple of months, the once a year customers…all of you…we love you, we want you ALL part of this market, and if we don’t see you for a while, we wonder about you, we care about you, we love you, and we start to get blue….

Because, Since You Been Gone…we just can’t take it!

The market is now open the week!! Make us happy…all of you…throw us an order…let us know you still think about us…we look forward to seeing all of you, next week, at order pick up!

And…why not…you won’t want to miss The Swisher Hill Herb Tasting, on that night!!

C’mon…since you’ve been gone…we’ve missed you!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam
