Tullahoma Locally Grown:  Happy New Year!

The market is open, and pick-up is back to our regular Thursdays 4:15-6.

Fox Farm is back with breakfast sausage and pork chops.
Double Tree Farms has sweet potatoes and a lot of cuts of beef.
Fountain Springs Farm has a lot of chicken cuts as well.

Get started here: Tullahoma Locally Grown Market

Winter can be rough, what are you all cooking these days? I feel I could live on meat, biscuits and sauerkraut!

Martin's Farmstand:  Winter on the farm

It is cold but there is still lots of cabbage, potatoes, garlic and more in our storage. Remember us if your supply needs replenishing.
It is almost time to plant the tomatoes for the greenhouse. We are mostly finished with planning what should be grown next year and the seed and plants are purchased. A major change in the fields is the move to semi-permanent raised beds for a good portion of the farm. There are many reasons for this change including an increased ability to plant on time even if the weather is adverse. I can also have deeper topsoil in the root zone that is not compacted by the tractor tires.
I have cut some logs out of our woods and milled the lumber I need to build more strawberry carriers. I am also working at closing in the stand building. The goal is to have better and fresher produce because of less sun and wind on the display. We are are also working to set things up better so that our energy can be used to grow good food and love and serve people rather than spending so much work carrying tubs of produce back and forth and in and out.
Andrew is working at some changes to our web presence. We want to develop a website that is as close as possible to giving you a virtual look into our stand so you can see what we have along with prices etc. You should see this toward spring time if we are satisfied with it. Daniel

Offerings you may want to check out!

Bakery on Brooks is back and Marie has fabulous Gluten Free offerings! Paleo Bites, perfect for an after-work-out-pick-me-up or a part of breakfast or healthy afternoon snack for the kiddos! Cookies to tempt your taste buds; soft and yummy Sandwich Bread perfect for sandwiches for Gluten Free folks! Try any of her delicious Rolls or Cornbread with your favorite soup. We are blessed to have such a wonderful Baker who makes the best Gluten Free items I have ever had!

For those of you who are not Gluten Free, My Daily Bread offers a great variety of Organic Baked Goods! Jams/Jellies/Preserves, (my favorites are the Hot Pepper Peach and Blackberry) all made from Organic ingredients! Check out the two new items Dabrielle has added! Beer Buzzed Cheese Dip, (perfect for snacking with veggies or crackers) and Buffalo Blue Cheese Dip which would go great with some Chicken Wings from Heritage Farm! Beware — Dabrielle says “It’s not for the faint of heart!” She has also added sliced Pumpernickel to her fabulous variety of yeast breads! Dabrielle bakes with passion and loves providing us with fresh Organic offerings and we are blessed to have her at Market!

Greg of Heritage Farm has Whole Duck, Leg of Lamb and Lamb Chops on Special this week. Bacon is back! This Hickory Smoked Bacon is over-the-top in flavor! Try some! Oh the Deli Sliced Ham is delicious. I have had it on sandwiches and added to a Fritatta — FABULOUS! Heritage Farm is a Family run Farm. Greg’s wife, Lainya and their children all participate in the work and running of Farm, so their ‘by-line’ from our family to yours encompasses that truth. I will be highlighting the Farm in next week’s Newsletter and we will have Greg as Farmer of the Day soon! I am grateful Heritage Farm is part of the Heirloom Living Market Family!

Carrell Farms is back with Water Buffalo offerings! Try some Soup Bones for wonderful Bone Broth!
